Since the beginning of this year I have made it a goal to get out of debt ASAP. After creating a budget it was obvious that we needed more money so I began researching ways to make some extra cash.
Here are several things that I have done to make a little extra here and there that really adds up!
Seriously!!! All you have to do is join and they will send you a $10 Wal-Mart gift card (it takes 7 years to arrive but they do send it ←exaggeration). Install it on your computer and they give you a percent of cash back every time you buy something at one of their affiliated stores! I seriously love this place and wonder why I was not a member when I was a shopaholic!!! Even being a recovering shopaholic I have been able to make money!!! FYI-the more you shop, the more you make. You can get cash back on almost anything you buy online!
2. Bing Rewards
This is another super easy way to make extra money. All you do is sign up and you earn points every time you use the Bing search engine, which can turn out to be way more than you expected. Install their browser on all of your computers and cell phones and you will be racking up points like crazy. You don’t actually get cash but you get some great reward cards from Amazon, Starbucks, Windows, Xbox and several other things.
3. Wal-Mart Savings Catcher
I don’t know about you, but Wal-Mart is my home away from home. I feel like I am in there at least 4 times a week. The Wal-Mart Savings Catcher is an app that you can download on your phone. Every time you shop at Wal-Mart you can scan your receipt and it will compare prices from all the stores in the area. If it finds lower prices, it will refund you the money to use for future purchases at Wal-Mart. I have gotten over $40 back and I live in a small town with not much to compare to. This also comes in handy when I am grocery shopping. I can just get everything at Walmart instead of driving all over town to get the best prices…they do that part for me!
4. Sell on eBay
This takes a little more effort but once you get the hang of it you can make big bucks. They have made it very easy to list and sell your items. You can even do it right from your phone. I have had the best luck selling name brand items. I had a pair of Kendra Scott earrings that I had worn once and realized they were too heavy for my ears. I listed them and they sold for almost what I paid for them. I sold several pair of my son’s jeans that he had out grown and made quite a bit on them also. In one month, I was able to make over $750.00 off of stuff just lying around my house. EBay does take 10% of your profits but I think it is still worth it. If you don’t have the time to go through the whole process of selling, eBay now offers a valet service. They will send you a label and you mail them your things. I have not personally done it this way so you may want to read up on it first. I know that you only make 40% profit off of items that sell for less than $50. A bonus to selling on eBay is, when you ship your sold items, you can activate your ebates and get up to 5% cash back on your shipping charges that are usually paid by your buyer.
5. Have a garage sell
Ok so maybe this is not classified as easy but you can definitely make some extra cash. Being one who hates clutter and throws items out on a regular basis, I have had several garage sells. We once had a garage sell for a youth fundraiser. Everyone from the church donated items and before we knew it we had soooo much stuff. We decided to only mark the big items such as furniture and sell the rest by donation. This worked out perfectly. There were some people who would take a lot of stuff and only give you a couple of bucks but there were more people who gave bigger amounts since it was going to a good cause. For a personal garage sell, I found that separating clothes into different bins that are individually priced is on easy way to mark clothes. Keep a bin in your garage and every time you come across something that you don’t want or no longer fit just price it and stick it in the bin, when the bin is full, have a garage sale!
Ok now for the somewhat difficult ways to make extra cash…
6. Freelance Writing
There is an overwhelming amount of people out there that will pay you to create and maintain social networking sites for them. There are many who will pay you to write papers or books for them as well. Some jobs include just editing something or coming up with a catchy slogan. I have done a little bit of blog posting for people, which usually pays $3-$5 per 50 words and most of these people want to hire you long term. Just click on the link above, sign up, create your profile and then you pick the projects you want to do and bid on them.
7. Make something and sell it
Ok if you are reading this blog I have a feeling that you are either creative or you want to be creative and that is all you need to achieve this. Whether it is craft items, food items, digital items, or cleaning items, there are many people out there who would rather buy something than go to the trouble to make it themselves. We have ladies that come by every month selling pies and cakes. I always buy from them because I don’t care for baking! Everyone has some sort of talent! Sell locally or on Etsy.
8. Go grocery shopping for people
This is a task that many people, including myself, loath. There was a time, prior to my financial awakening, that I would have willingly paid someone to go get my groceries for me. Thanks to Facebook and other social media outlets, you could create a page listing your services and get free advertisement. Share your page with all of your friends and ask them to share your page as well. Post your page in local trade groups on Facebook. Once you build up your cliental, you decide which days you will go to the store and get the groceries all at once, charging a small fee for your service. If you had 3 clients that you were shopping for and charged them $20 each, you could make $60 for a couple of hours work. This is something that would be great for stay at home moms!
9. Babysit, Mow Lawns, or Clean Houses
These are pretty self-explanatory. All are hard work and often require commitment but are definite ways to make extra cash.
10. Start a blog
Ok so this may seem like the scariest idea of all…but it is not! I remember when I first started thinking about having a blog and I would get so nervous about the idea. Who in the world would want to read what I have to say?!?!?! When I realized that you could not only make extra money but possibly a living off of having a blog, I decided to go for it. There are many blogs out there to help you get started…here is my step by step instructions for getting started. I post more as I learn! Once you start getting use to all the technical stuff, it really is a lot of fun and addicting. You will need between $50-$100 to get started depending on how you do it but I would definitely recommend blogging to anyone who like to talk or write!
There you have it 10 ideas for making a little extra cash!!!
