In January of 2012, my husband and I purchased our “dream home”
No…it is not a mansion or even anything elaborate, but it was perfect for us. It was one of those houses that you walk into and immediately feel the warmth and comfort.
It was love at first site for me and I actually wrote about it on my old blog!
When we first moved in, I decided I wanted to be different and decorate very colorfully. Our last house had been decorated in multiple shades of brown and I was excited to have a new canvas to throw some color onto.
Well, here we are…4 years later…and I am sick of color!
This could be because of my obsession with Fixer Upper on HGTV!
I have been wanting to redecorate for the past year and the itch gets worse every day!
I knew when the time came that I would start in my master bedroom and bath.
I have not been able to make a designer connection with my bedroom since we moved in. I have been through 4 bedspreads and have rearranged at least a dozen times!
The room came with purple carpet. I am not a fan of purple at all, but considering my love for the house, I decided to try to make it work and since our mortgage payment was tripling, there was no room for new carpet in the budget.
I found this amazing bed spread at Anthropologie and decided it would be perfect!
Unfortunately…it was sold out when I got ready to make the purchase :(…so, I settled on this one instead
After about 3 months (and a comment by my son about how weird this bedspread was), I decided it was not really me. I settled on a cheap, plain, white bedspread until I could find the perfect bedspread to go with my unique carpet. Having a cat and a dog sleeping on my bed was not good for the white so, after replacing it once, I ended up with what I have now…
I told you the carpet was purple!
This ultimately just looks like a random mess to me…I have lost grip on any sort of color scheme and look at this…
It is definitely time for a make-over!!!
So…here is my inspiration board…
I know, I know…another white bedspread!
The lamps are from Pottery Barn for $176.00 a piece (not including the lamp shade which is another $63.00 each)
The barn door is from Home Depot for $498.00 (and I need one double that size)
The clock is from Magnolia Market for $195.00
The bedding is from Pottery Barn for $359.00
The pillows and throw are from Anthropologie for $264.00
The glass lantern (also from Anthropologie) is $16.00
and the glass knobs are $8.00 each which comes to a total of over $2000.00
YEAH…I DON’T IMAGINE MY HUSBAND WILL GO FOR THAT! I still have the rest of my house to re-decorate too!
Let’s see what I can do with about $350.00
I got online and began searching for bedding.
I have somewhat of a fetish with Hotel beds so I decided I wanted to have a hotel bed in my room. I have never had a duvet before so I wanted to try one. After searching several websites, I found the perfect one at Ikea for $49.99 (including shams). I got a king size even though I have a queen size bed because I wanted it to hang down on both sides.
After reading through millions of reviews, I found my duvet insert at Amazon for $42.99. I really wanted this one but could not find it in a king size but FYI it has almost 100% positive reviews
I found these lamps at Kirkland’s for $24.99 each (including the shade).
I found on eBay for $2.59 each and these throw pillow covers for $5 – $7 each
I haven’t ordered the pillows yet because I am thinking about making my own!
Finding the barn door was going to be a little more difficult! After search for hours, I found the track . This was the cheapest place I could find and it was located in the U.S. with free shipping! I ordered the 12ft which was a little long for my 4 foot opening so my husband had to cut some of the railing off. Considering I could not find a door for less than my entire budget, I decided to make my own!
The track and the lumber together were only $151.17!
So my grand total so far is…$294.13 which leaves me a little over $50.00 to get some extras!!!
I can’t will all look like!!!
