Is the simplified life for me?
I am one who has lots of “things”. From decorations to cosmetics, to shoes…I have an abundance. I don’t even love these things, I just love buying them. Included in this abundance, of “stuff” are stress and debt!!! There had to be a solution to this overwhelming and sinking feeling.
I first came across “simplifying your life” on Pinterest.
There are multiple pins on a simplified life as an answer to issues such as stress, money problems and more. I am willing to try anything that will relieve some of my stress and make life easier. As a mother of 2 helpless teenagers, that are actively involved, I NEED A STRESS RELIEVER!!! Come on, how many extra-curricular activities can the school and our community offer?
This Simplified Life thing was looking pretty good!!!
When I started searching the internet for how to live a “simplified” life, I was quickly knocked off my “this is the life for me” pedestal. These people wanted me to have chickens… in my backyard!!!! Seriously…Chickens!!! Not only, would have to house, feed, and care for these animals, when the time came, I am supposed to KILL IT, and, EAT IT. HOW COULD THIS RELIEVE STRESS? I am getting stressed just reading about it. How could this possibly be “simpler”?
Not only am I suppose to kill my own food, the articles I found, suggest homeschooling! UHH…HELLO, my kids are part of the problem!!! Don’t get me wrong, I adore my kids but, I also adore my free time. Homeschool was NOT for me! I imagine that my kids would definitely agree!
The simple life was not for me!!!
I went back to my life of overindulgence. I found ways to incorporate my monthly subscriptions into the budget. Sure we got behind on our electric bill, but I still had my Stitch Fix, bare essential, proactive, and Shakeology. Wasn’t this the life I was supposed to live?
Finally, in April when I sat down to pay our bills, it hit me how in debt we had gotten. Just by not paying attention, we had managed to rack up several extra expenses. We had no major purchases just little things here and there. Both of our checks combined, were not enough to pay our necessary bills. There was definitely no extra for the things I had been indulging in.
A major life change needed to occur!
The time to make a huge change had come upon us. Maybe I was not cut out to be a homesteader, but, I definitely wanted to simplify my life but in a less evasive manner!!! There had to be an answer that did not include the options that included bloodshed!
