Step 15 – Organize Your Finances
Well friends, today is the last day of our “the getting our life in order challenge”. Are you going to miss me as much as I will miss you?
Oh, you will be back?
That’s great to hear!!! Yes, I love you too!
Ok now onto the last step…
Organizing your finances.
Yeah I’m sorry…I saved the best for last!!!!
Get rid of that out dated paper check register and create one on your computer or online. Yes you can switch over!!! Nope, I don’t want to hear it. 🙂
Excel offers several premade options or you can do one online that you can access anywhere at Clear Checkbook.
If you are not already signed up for online banking do that now also and use it to balance that checkbook!
Create a budget. This can be a tedious task but you will feel so much better once it is done. Excel offers some premade ones or there are apps and websites that offer tools to help you do this. None of them quite fit my needs so I made my own in Excel and it is really simple. Here is a clean copy if you would like to use it. Yearly Budget
And here is my post about getting my finances in order. A budget makes all the difference in your finances.
Make any neccessary adjustments to fit within your budget iand create a savings account and emergency fund (if you don’t already have one). For me this meant cancelling several beloved subscriptions!!!
Call utilitity and cable companies and see if you can lower your bills. I did this and was able to get almost everything lowered. Cancel credit cards that you don’t use and that are charging ridiculous interest rates. Make sure you are not paying for anything that is uneccessary (credit card insurance, monthly fees, cell phone insurance…you can get a replacement on eBay for just as cheap)
Add “balance checkbook” to your daily routines and “look over budget” to your weekly routine.
Create a bill calender. Write all of your bills and their due dates on a calender. And create a password sheet to store all of your passwords and logins. Do both of these on the computer!
Create a folder on your desktop to put all of your financial tools in…
- check register
- bill calender
- links to pay bills online
- password cheat sheet
Gather financial items and store them all together…
- address labels
And that is all folks!!! You have completed my 15 step challenge to getting you life in order now for my big announcement!!!
I have an organizational giveaway coming up!!!!
Want some hints as what all is included…Flylady, In A Pikle, Cozi, and something really big that I am not going to disclose yet!!! Stay tuned!!!
