Step 8 – Organize Your Purse and Bags
Today we are going to organize our purses, diaper bags, gym bags and whatever else you carry around on daily basis.
Start by finding you a comfy spot (possibly in the floor). You will need lots of room. Then dump the contents of your first bag out. Do your bags one at a time so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Toss all of the trash and old receipts. Separate the items from your purse into these categories:
To put away
To throw away
To put back in bag
Money and change
Receipts to keep
Misc. small items
If you have other bags inside your bag, do the same for them. This includes wallets! Dump it all and separate. Throw away expired gift cards and coupons. Cut up old credit cards.
Now start tackling your separate piles. Take the time to put away everything that needs to be put away. Put it in its correct home, not the junk drawer!
Next, find smaller bags for items such as cosmetics, change, receipts, medicines, nail clippers and nail files. I use the free bags that I get from Clinique but here are some cute ones that I have been eyeballing.
I keep all of my cosmetics, nail clippers, nail file, bobby pins, perfume, and hair ties in one bag.
I have a coin purse that I keep all of my change in. It is separate from my wallet. I do not keep receipts, unless it is something that I might return. I put these in a pocket in my wallet.
Return all of your cash, credit cards, and driver’s license neatly to your wallet.
I have one of these little pockets that clips on my key chain that I keep my license, debit card, and my most used credit card in. I thought it would be too bulky on my key chain, but I love it. When I leave to run my kids around, I don’t have to grab my entire purse.
Now put all of your small misc. items (medicine, Band-Aids, tissues), in a bag so they don’t get lost in your purse.
Put everything neatly back into your bag. You should have one big bag with smaller bags inside. From now on, anything floating freely is trash or needs to be put away.
Here is a list of items to keep in your purse that will help you to be more organized:
- Small flashlight, super glue, and safety pins (in one bag)
- Notepad and pens (in their own bag)
- Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Neosporin, hand sanitizer, alcohol wipes, cotton swabs, and Band-Aids (all in one bag)
- Face powder, lip gloss, lip stick, Chap Stick, mascara, nail clippers, nail file, hand lotion, deodorant, body spray, and mirror (all in one bag)
- Feminine products, feminine wipes and smell good baggies (in one bag)
- Sunglasses (in a case)
- Eye glasses (in a case)
